I love healthy food, it is what I actually crave….
The trick is to really listen for a while and learn the right cues…. For example, your body maybe telling you it needs sugar, but maybe you have not taught it exactly what it really needs.
Listening to your body in the beginning is more about listening to how you feel after eating. Could you go for a walk? Or do you need fetal position for rest of day?
Diet ideas can be as tricky to talk about as religion or politics. People’s views on Paleo, Veganism, Raw food etc. vary as much and are as passionately defended as all other worldly topics. People’s judgement of your choices can also be very harsh.
Have you ever tried turning down a piece of birthday cake from a German Mum. Booze on a 21st. Fish n Chips on Friday…
It is uncomfortable. But you will survive it, and you will survive it well. Enjoy your cake when you choose to, but don’t ever let yourself think you have no choice, that is the only thing you need to remember.
I feel connected (in a non-weird way) to my food, which probably comes from growing up on a small lifestyle farm. Our weekly steak came from the cow we had fed milk from a bottle. The earthy smell of the tunnel house, collecting eggs from the chickens each morning, fishing with my dad and catching only an octopus. Which became a campfire dinner, collecting mussels, diving for paua. But even more so the family meal every evening. Sitting to eat, without distractions — That’s bloody important.
Meal Inspiration…..
Simple Quinoa Salad with Tandoori Chicken.
Simple Quinoa Salad
3 cups cooked Quinoa
1 Avocado
1 Spring Onion
1 Lemon
Handful parsley
Handful shelled Pistachio Nuts
Finely chopped fresh chili
Dash of your preferred oil
Salt and pepper
Chop all the things that clearly need to be chopped, and mix.
Tandoori Chicken
Chicken meat, boneless (I prefer thigh)
I cup high fat natural yoghurt
1 tablespoon Tandoori Masala Barbeque Spice Blend
Salt and Pepper.
Marinate your chosen amount of chicken for at least an hour, overnight is always better.
Depending on the amount of meat you are cooking the marinade should always coat chicken generously.
I don’t like to give amounts as I think they are time-consuming on my part, you know how much you need, and if you don’t, you probably need to work that out! Make more marinade if needed.
I grilled our chicken, and it turned out great, barbequed or pan-fried works well too.
A squeeze of lemon juice over top gives a touch of love 😉
